The Basic Plan for Science and Technology aims at establishing Japan as a nation based on the creativity of science and technology.The Basic Plan aims to promote concrete Science and Technology policies comprehensively and positively.In the area of education, the plan focuses on the improvement of science and technology education through:· providing better teacher training · supplying adequate equipment and improving facilities for science and industrial education· promoting the introduction of educational computers · conducting practical research on use of Internet in education· developing and enriching educational software· promoting the establishment of a Educational Software Library Center across the nation· offering students an opportunity to do research with institutes of higher learning· implementing measures to improve science and other types of museums |

Japan has proposed a number of policies on innovation in education through the use of new technologies. Japan’s goal is to have every classroom equipped with the hardware and software by 2005. Activities involving the use of ICT include gathering, transmission and exchange of information, collaborative learning and research, collaborative production and network conferencing. The promotion of ICT use in institutes of higher education includes implementing the Space Collaboration System project and the virtual university project. |
