Notes:
1. Net enrolment rates are calculated by dividing the number of resident students of a particular age group enrolled in a given level of education by the number of persons in the resident population in that age group. At the primary and secondary level only national schools are considered.2. Gross enrolment ratio for a given level of education is derived by dividing the total resident enrolment for a particular level of education, regardless of age, by the resident population of the age group which according to national regulations, should be enrolled at that level.
3. Classification by educational levels follows the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED), with due consideration given to institutional arrangements in Singapore, in particular the following:
a. Secondary education refers to the 4 - 5 years of education after primary education.4. The net entry rate (for tertiary level) is calculated by adding the net entry rate for each single year of age. The result represents the proportion of persons in a synthetic age-cohort who enter the tertiary level of education.b. Post-secondary education refers to a course of study after secondary education which provides preparation for university studies or technical training for direct entry in to the labour market.
c. Tertiary education comprises Type A (university) education and Type B (practical/technical/occupationally specific programmes) education. A duration of 5 years is used, to take into account the different entry ages for Type A and Type B tertiary education.
d. Male students entering tertiary educational institutions after National Service of 2 - 2.5 year duration are accounted for in the same year as females in the same birth cohorts.
5. School expectancy is the number of years of education that a 6-year old child can expect to enrol in over his/her lifetime, given current enrolment rates. It is calculated by taking the sum of enrolment rates across each single year of age starting at six.
