NATIONAL HERITAGE TOURS FOR SCHOOLS

The National Heritage Tours (NHTs) can be counted towards the Learning Journeys.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the NHTs are to enable pupils to:

  • understand and appreciate the rich cultural and historical heritage of our people;
  • foster a sense of pride in the rich diversity of our heritage; and
  • share a common bond which will hold our society together as a people and as a nation.

THE PACKAGES

There are NHT packages for the primary, lower secondary and upper secondary levels:

(i)   The packages for primary level focus on the social and cultural aspects of our

  heritage.

(ii)  The packages for lower secondary level focus on our historical and political heritage.

(iii) The packages for upper secondary level focus on the economic, architectural and

For each package, the following materials and resources have been developed for schools:

GUIDELINES FOR IMPLEMENTATION

In students’ ten years of formal education, they would be expected to go on at least three heritage tours – one while in their primary school and two in their secondary school (one in lower secondary and one in upper secondary). These tours help to reinforce and consolidate what students have learnt in the classroom and strengthen their feelings and attachments to Singapore
