Young people are energised by the youthful enthusiasm of our youthful teachers.

As in past years, this year's annual convention of the Outstanding Youth in Education Award* (OYEA) brought together 12 teachers together, united in their boundless energy and commitment, amidst all the stress and demands of their daily teaching.

And as they conversed with each other, they found they had a common desire to be a bridge to the needs of beginning teachers. Over much fruit, kueh-kuehs, cakes, caffeine and other diuretic beverages, the OYEA 2005 finalists spent many meetings after their teaching days to brainstorm the conceptualisation and content of what they wanted to bring to our beginning teachers.

Over time, they decided on a devising a webpage based on a 'From Us to You', for beginning teachers by youthful teachers approach. And they've decided to do this with a cafe concept. They hope this is a website you can return to again, and again, for tips, for inspiration and for encouragement. This website holds all their well wishes and good intentions for you.

This is the cafe O.Y.E.A story.

*The OYEA Award is an annual award given out by the National Youth Council, in recognition of outstanding young teachers who have also demonstrated a strong passion for youth development. Teachers Network (TN) provided the secretariat support for the award. This year, TN has also worked closely with the OYEA 2005 finalists to bring you the From Us to You Project - Cafe OYEA.
