At MOEHQ

TWA is a professional development activity aimed at broadening the perspectives and outlook of our teachers beyond the school environment. Through work attachments in external organisations, teachers can learn how industries operate and gain new experiences. These new experiences could translate into innovative and interesting teaching strategies that would benefit students. Not confined to external organisations, attachments also take place in MOE HQ Divisions.

The tagline "Get Fresh . Get Attached" is purposefully crafted to encourage teachers to get fresh and be acquainted with the idea of getting themselves attached to other organizations. This 'tongue-in-cheek' tagline is deliberate in its attempt to excite and conjure up images of being daring to get acquainted with other organisations, to broaden one's perspectives, and create new learning and experiences for their own professional development. Such exposure at various external organisations will definitely enable them to gather refreshing ideas which will benefit and enrich students' learning and experiences.

Teachers Network (TN) is the main driver for the TWA programme. The TWA unit actively source for attachment places from external organisations. Besides TN facilitated attachments, teachers can also source for their own attachments through their schools or personal contacts.

Nature of work attachment

Depending on the organisation, teachers could be exposed to various aspects of their business such as marketing, event management, human resource, customer service or even R&D. The teachers are likely to be involved in some hands-on work under the guidance of a mentor/buddy. Some teachers may have specific learning objectives which could be worked out mutually with the hosting organisation. Teachers going into an organisation as a neutral third party could also add value by providing inputs and perspectives on its products and services. It is a win-win situation for both parties.

Timeframe and duration
TN facilitated attachments usually take place during the school holidays (June and November/December). The attachment can vary from a minimum of 1-week attachment to longer attachments ranging from a month to a year. It can be done locally or overseas in both private or public sector organisations. There are no restrictions on the types of work attachment as long as the teacher and/or school could benefit from the attachment.
